The Torreón del Monje is a classic structure from Mar del Plata, and has been captured on innumerable postcards and pictures. The Torreón is located in Punta Piedras, and offers a wonderful panoramic view of the city and the Bristol Beach, since the building is located at the end of a pronounced bay.
The building was donated to the city by Ernesto Tornquist, of Swedish heritage, and was inaugurated in the year 1904. The construction is of Midieval style and is named after a legend that tells of a soldier haunted by the loss of a loved one, who decides to confine himself to this space "like a monk."
Currently there is a cafe inside the building, and also an exclusive party salon and a large terrace that is used in summer as scenery of tv shows that transmit information about the summer season from the Torreón del Monje.Quick access by neighborhood in English / Spanish
